Modern Naturopathy is the use of evidence based treatments and an holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying causes of health problems.
We are not GP’s and we don’t offer diagnosis. We form part of your holistic health team, which should also include your medical doctor.
We don’t ‘treat conditions’ we treat people. So we see your symptoms as a whole picture and work to understand what your body needs to be well again.

This isn’t an easy one. But if I had to pick one place to start it would be seeing how you feel on a Low FODMAPs diet for a short time. It’s definitely not a long term strategy, but this would avoid the foods that are most commonly going to trigger an episode of bloating. Perhaps book a time to see me if you would like a long term solution.

Yes! You are in good company with the majority of my clients. IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning you’ve looked at what else this could be and ruled out Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Ulcers and Coeliac Disease.
Getting an IBS diagnosis is pretty much the arms up shrugging emoji.
I love working with clients who’ve hit a dead end and are ready to make changes to their diet and take bitter tasting herbal medicine, and get results!

This will depend on what is driving the visceral hypersensitivity in IBS. Some of the key strategies I won’t be without in clinic include PHGG, Zinc Carnosine, Spore Probiotics, Herbal medicines such as Iberis, Gentian, Globe Artichoke and Angelica, Lemon Balm and Liquorice.
If someone is in significant pain, that becomes the first step of treatment, because they may be in a state of fight or flight (sympathetic nervous system) and therefore can’t move into rest and digest (parasympathetic) where they can heal.

A naturopath isn’t an alternative to a GP—we work alongside your general health practice to support a whole-person approach to wellness.
Instead of focusing solely on conditions, we treat people, addressing the underlying factors that influence health.
We specialize in the four pillars of well-being—diet, movement, lifestyle, and sleep—helping you build sustainable habits that support long-term vitality.
Our approach is especially valuable in areas where Western medicine may not always have clear solutions, such as IBS, chronic fatigue, hormonal imbalances, and stress-related concerns.

Probably.
There’s plenty of opportunity to introduce new ingredients into most people’s diets to drive positive changes and enhance overall health. However, nutrition is never a one-size-fits-all approach—what works for one person may not benefit another in the same way.
I prefer to emphasize inclusion rather than exclusion, shifting the focus toward all the nourishing ingredients that actively support health goals instead of fixating on avoiding the few that might be harmful.
If you already enjoy cooking a diverse range of foods and maintain a well-balanced diet, you’re likely covering all your nutritional needs.
Once we get the nutrition pillar sorted, then we can look at movement, sleep and lifestyle to get you balanced again.

Glad you asked. The first consultation is a conversation. For many it’s the first time they’ve put all of their health information together in one place and it can be quite enlightening.
I’ll ask you a wide variety of questions, and often very intimate. Sometimes you’re going to feel like I’ve strayed off topic. Perhaps you’re coming to me for gut health and I’m asking about any history of Urinary Tract Infections. This is because with holistic treatment I want to know about all the contributing factors to the symptoms you’re seeking help with, not just the immediate symptoms. I’m looking for clues of nutritional deficiencies and underlying causes.
By the end of the consultation we’ll have discussed your health history and the contributing factors, we’ll be able to formulate the first steps and make a Treatment Plan, which may include a Meal Plan.
Follow up consultations are then scheduled. At these we work through what you have managed to change, and what you’re finding more difficult to adopt. We’re all human, and life has a way of getting in the way sometimes, so from here we tweak, and work towards your goals.

You don’t need to bring anything in particular.
However, it is essential that you complete the form sent to you ahead of time in the email confirmation of your appointment.
Here you’ll include all medications and supplements you’re on and upload any recent test results.
Some people like to bring in the supplements they have stashed in their cupboards. We can likely refine these and ensure you’re not taking anything contraindicated with your goals and sometimes recommend stronger or higher quality products.

If you have been prescribed Herbal Medicine by us you will have been given a specific dose to take, along with instructions on how to take them. You should always follow these directions. If anything remains unclear, please contact us immediately.
General instructions below:
Pour the prescribed amount of herbal extract into a small glass (think shot glass). Add 10mls of water (of juice) then swallow in one mouthful. You may like to have a mouthful of water afterwards to wash down the bitter flavour.
